De Kinderen van Tante Truus |
The children that used to call Mrs Geertruida Wijsmuller-Meijer "Auntie Trudy" were thousands of young Jewish refugees who she transported out of Germany to safer places. Already in the 30ies she set up mass-transports for these endangeoured kids. When the war started and the Nazis invaded Holland, she succeeded in getting 74 children on the last ship that left The Netherlands, just 10 minutes before the official capitulation. A large group of people were left behind on the quay... It was a chaotic, hurried and anxious atmosphere that the traumatised children embarked helter-skelter on the freightcarrier "Bodegraven" with unknown destination. Finally they would end up in a British orphanage without knowing how long this situation would last and how their relatives were doing. That most of them would in fact leave their orphanage five years later as real orphans they didn't know yet. Together with researcher Miriam Keesing, BosBros will turn this remarkable true story into a feature film from the point of view of one of the children. |
